August 1, 2012
Dear Newhall Families,
We are all excited about the beginning of new school year here at Newhall! I hope that you all had a wonderful summer; before we know it, we will be settling into the nice, crisp fall weather accompanied by the happy sounds of children at school.
Our first day of school is Tuesday, August 14th – this will be a regular school schedule day – students in our Transitional Kindergarten program begin their day at 8:15 (early students) and at 10:15 (late students) and end their day at 12:25 (early students) and at 2:10 (late students); our Kindergarten students attend school from 8:15 to 2:10; our students in grades 1-6 attend school from 8:15 to 3:00.
For the 2012-13 school year, Newhall Elementary will join 7 other schools in the Newhall School District who have a scheduled, weekly minimum day for teacher Professional Learning Community work time. This means that students will have a minimum day each Friday throughout the school year – early and late Transitional Kindergarten will attend school from 8:15 – 12:25; Kindergarten through Sixth grade will attend school from 8:15 – 12:10 every Friday (except for Fridays that are pupil free or holidays throughout the school year). Please make sure to refer to our posted school calendar for the new school year.
Please be on the lookout for important forms that come home with your child during the first week of school. It is crucial that we have the most up to date medical and emergency contact information for each child who attends school here at Newhall. Please make sure that these forms are completed and turned in right away.
There will be a welcome back PTA Coffee and Opening Membership Drive in our MPR at 8:15 on the first day of school. We will also be conducting our School Site Council elections. Please plan to stop by and join us.
Parents often ask what supplies their child/ children will need for school. All children should have some sort of back pack for taking homework/ correspondence back and forth in. If you pack a snack or lunch at home for your child/ children, a lunch box is also a good idea. It is important you mark all personal items from home with each child’s name – this way, if items are lost, we can be sure to match them with their owner. We supply students with individual pencils, rulers, scissors, glue, and crayons. Each class has its own supply of colored pencils, markers, and other such items. Some teachers and/or grade levels will send home a “wish list” of other supplies that you may elect to send it throughout the year.
Our Newhall School Handbook and The Newhall Way (our school’s comprehensive Behavior and Positive Reward Program) are available on this school website – hard copies are also available upon request. These important documents contain policies and procedures that help to keep our school running safely and efficiently. Please read and make yourself familiar with these documents.
Once the school year begins, you want to exchange information with your child’s teacher, Any staff member can be reached via e-mail by using their first initial and last name at the Newhall School District e-mail address, i.e. trainville@newhall.k12.ca.us (my contact). You can also send a note or leave a message on their voicemail during the school day.
I will share information about new staff members and more in the first official newsletter of the year. I look forward to another wonderful school year – and I look forward to seeing each of you soon!
Sincerely,
Tammi Rainville
